The UK's First Women's Amputee Match, in Sawston
Last month saw the first ever women’s amputee match take place in the UK, and it happened on our patch in South Cambridgeshire.
The match took place on October 17 2026 in Sawston, at the FWD-IP Community Stadium; home of Cambridge City, between a recently-formed Lilywhites team that, up until a few months ago didn’t even exist, and one of the world’s best and revered international sides, Poland 🇵🇱 [Amp Futbol Polska].
The game ended in a 1-1 draw, with the visitors winning 3-1 in a rematch the following day.
Because there are currently no dedicated women’s amputee football leagues in the country, Cambridge City has been in discussions about potentially entering the Polish league.
A GoFundMe page raising much needed money and awareness for the UK's first Female Amputee Football Team is available online now to those who would like to contribute. Please donate whatever you can.
The goal is to enable Cambridge City Women’s Amputee Team to compete in the Polish league as early as next year.
Funds will go towards international flights and accommodation — while also paying for essential kit, equipment and pitch hire closer to home.
For anyone interested in participating in amputee football in the area, Cambridge City offers monthly training sessions held at the FWD-IP Community Stadium, West Way, Sawston, on Sundays from 2-4pm. These sessions are for all abilities, and the club are always looking for new players to join regardless of ability or whether you have played before. The sessions are all based on having fun and in a friendly inclusive environment. Find out more.
Cambridge City FC also has a Mixed Amputee Team which competes in the England Amputee Association League [EAFL].
